THE WORK NOBODY SEES

Why strong foundations, consistency and small steps matter more than quick fixes

This week has had me thinking a lot about foundations.

The quiet work that happens behind the scenes before something begins to flourish.

It’s been a wonderfully varied week. I spent time networking with some incredible women in business, learning about their passions, sharing what we do and raising awareness of menopause.

One afternoon even involved making cowboy hats, which was a brilliant reminder that business doesn’t always have to feel serious. Laughter, creativity and connection matter too.

Jane and I were also invited onto a podcast to talk all things menopause. Every opportunity like this feels like another chance to reach women who may still be struggling without understanding why they feel so different.

We also had a social media content day. I’ll be honest, content creation is probably one of the less glamorous parts of running a small business. We would much rather spend our time sitting with women, hearing their stories and helping them move forwards.

But if one photograph, video or conversation helps a woman recognise her symptoms and seek support earlier, it is worth it.

Alongside all of that, I was back in clinic carrying out Menopause MOTs, supporting women through The Menopause Vitality Reset, and spending more time at Healthy Habitz Hub.

It’s beginning to feel like a second home. Seeing women walk through the door, settle into the space and realise they are somewhere safe and supportive makes all the work behind the scenes worthwhile.

WHY MENOPAUSE EDUCATION STILL MATTERS

One conversation at a networking event really stayed with me.

Because I live and breathe menopause every day, I sometimes forget that most women don’t.

My social media is full of menopause education. The books and podcasts I choose are often about hormones, women’s health, nutrition, sleep and midlife wellbeing.

Then I step into a room of successful, intelligent women and realise that many still don’t know the basics about perimenopause and menopause.

Not because they are uninterested.

The information simply hasn’t reached them.

Education shouldn’t depend on your social media algorithm.

Every woman deserves access to clear, evidence-informed information so that she can understand what is happening in her body and make informed choices about her health.

That is central to my vision: creating a world where women feel informed, supported and empowered to thrive through perimenopause, menopause and beyond.

THRIVING IN MIDLIFE IS NOT ABOUT DOING EVERYTHING
Something I read recently about thriving in midlife resonated deeply with me. The message was refreshingly simple. Looking after ourselves isn’t always about adding more things to our already overflowing lists.

It can mean:

  • staying socially connected
  • moving in ways we enjoy
  • spending time outdoors
  • making space for hobbies and laughter
  • practising self-compassion
Looking back over my own week, I realised I had unintentionally been doing exactly that.

There had been meaningful conversations, learning, laughter, purpose and community.

None of it was perfect. But together, it created a fulfilling week.
TIP OF THE WEEK: STRENGTHEN ONE FOUNDATION
Women often come to me looking for the one thing that will make them feel better.

The perfect supplement.
The perfect exercise plan.
The perfect hormone balance.

But lasting change rarely comes from one dramatic intervention.
It usually comes from strengthening the foundations.

This week, instead of asking:
“What else should I be doing?”
Try asking:
“Which foundation could I strengthen?”

Perhaps it is:

  • going to bed 30 minutes earlier
  • adding more protein to your meals
  • taking a short walk outside
  • reconnecting with a friend
  • finally asking for support
You don’t have to change everything at once. One brick at a time can create something incredibly strong.

WHERE TO START
If you feel overwhelmed by your symptoms or unsure where to begin, support starts with understanding your individual picture.

You can begin with:

FINAL THOUGHT
Building a business and supporting your health through menopause have more in common than I ever expected.
Both require patience.
Both require consistency.
Both involve work that other people may never see.
And both become stronger when the foundations are right.
Be kind to yourself, trust the process and celebrate the small wins.
They are often the changes that create the greatest difference over time.
