TIME TO RECHARGE
What a few days by the ocean reminded me about rest, resilience and supporting your nervous system in menopause.
This week's blog comes to you as I prepare to head home after a wonderful break in California. After the travel saga of getting there (which included delayed flights and missed connections!), I spent several days travelling in an RV with two very good friends.
And do you know what? It was exactly what I needed.
We woke to the sound of the ocean each morning.
We walked barefoot along the beach.
We paddled in the Pacific Ocean.
We laughed… a lot.
We ate well, slept well and simply enjoyed being together.
There was something incredibly calming about standing with the sand beneath my feet and the waves gently washing around my ankles. It was a reminder of just how restorative nature can be.

SOMETIMES PRESSING PAUSE MOVES YOU FORWARD
Now, if I'm being completely honest, my brain never switched off entirely.
Now, if I'm being completely honest, my brain never switched off entirely.
I still found myself thinking about Healthy Habitz Hub, my clients, new ideas and the women I want to help.
That's who I am.
But I also found myself doing something I'm getting much better at.
Stopping.
Looking up.
Listening to the sea.
Watching the sunset.
Being fully present in the moment.
And I realised something important.
Taking a break didn't slow me down.
It gave me the space to come back with more energy, more clarity and even more excitement for everything that's ahead.
Sometimes pressing pause isn't moving backwards.
It's exactly what allows us to move forwards.
IN THE MENOPAUSE WORLD: WHY REST IS PART OF THE TREATMENT
One of the biggest conversations in menopause care continues to centre around stress, recovery and the nervous system.
One of the biggest conversations in menopause care continues to centre around stress, recovery and the nervous system.
We're learning more and more that menopause isn't simply about changing hormone levels.
It's also about how those hormonal changes influence the way our bodies respond to stress, recover from busy lives and regulate our emotions.
For many women, the years leading up to menopause have also been years of juggling careers, raising families, caring for ageing parents and putting everyone else's needs before their own.
It's no surprise that so many women describe themselves as feeling constantly "on".
The encouraging news is that research continues to show that supporting the nervous system through sleep, movement, meaningful relationships and time in nature can play an important role in overall wellbeing during midlife.
Rest isn't something to squeeze in when everything else is finished.
It's part of looking after your health.
TIP OF THE WEEK: FIND YOUR FIVE MINUTES OF NATURE
Pain Point
You know you need to slow down...
...but life feels too busy.
One Simple Shift
You don't need a week by the ocean to experience the benefits of nature.
Start with just five minutes.
You could:
- Walk around the block.
- Sit in your garden with a cup of tea.
- Visit your local park.
- Listen to birdsong.
- Feel the sunshine on your face.
- Notice the movement of the trees in the wind.
Research suggests that spending time in natural environments can help reduce stress, improve mood and support overall wellbeing.
Your nervous system doesn't need perfection.
It simply needs regular moments of calm and safety.
WHY THIS MATTERS
One of the greatest lessons this trip gave me wasn't about travelling.
One of the greatest lessons this trip gave me wasn't about travelling.
It was about permission.
Permission to stop.
Permission to rest.
Permission to enjoy the present without constantly thinking about the next thing on the to-do list.
As women, we're often conditioned to believe that rest has to be earned.
But the truth is, looking after ourselves isn't selfish.
It's the foundation that allows us to keep showing up for the people and things we love.
WHERE TO START
If you've been feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or like you've been running on empty for too long, don't wait until your body forces you to stop.
You can begin by taking one small step:
- Readiness & Symptom Snapshot
- Menopause Check-In (15 minutes)
- Menopause MOT
- The Menopause Vitality Reset
Sometimes all it takes is understanding where you are today to begin feeling more hopeful about tomorrow.
FINAL THOUGHT
As I head home, I feel incredibly grateful.
Grateful for the friends who made me laugh until my cheeks hurt.
Grateful for the ocean that reminded me to slow down.
Grateful for the opportunity to step away for a few days.
And perhaps most importantly...
Grateful that I've learnt it's okay to take a break.
Because looking after ourselves isn't something we fit in when everything else is finished.
It's one of the most important investments we can make in our health.
With you
